Give Back

It doesn't take more than a minute of reading the newspaper or watching the 5:00 news. It makes me feel helpless.

It makes me sad, discouraged, and a little overwhelmed that there are millions of hungry bellies, hurt souls, and families displaced. Not only worldwide, but right in our very own communities.

My job as a homemaker seems so small compared to the huge problems we as a population face. Yes, I want to raise my kids to be kind, loving, contributing members of society, but I want to do more.

Is anyone with me here? If so, welcome to a feature on our blog, called "Give Back."

We here at The Ivy Twines have officially challenged ourselves, and challenged you, to join with us in a year full of service to others.

Here are the details:

  1. Each month, we will present a theme. Within that month, we'll work to provide you with ideas, motivation, and outlets that will hopefully inspire and encourage all of us to give a little back.

  2. "Giving back" is not defined by a monetary value, a level of involvement, or even an amount of time. It doesn't have to be big to make a difference.

  3. At the heart of these ideas will be the understanding that if we can be more aware of the spirit of giving, we can make at least one person's day a bit brighter.

And to sweeten the deal for our do-gooders, of course, there will be giveaways for those who "give back."

Trust me, we will not go around checking in on everybody's business. The point is to simply inspire. Sometimes the beauty of doing good means that you may not be publicly recognized. But you will forever be remembered in someone's heart.

Feel free to send us an email if you've got a great idea, feel like we're missing out on something, or want to share examples of giving back. Fresh ideas are always welcome! We're getting ready to unveil March's theme and all the details! Stay tuned!

So who's with us?

  3. I decided to write my Gma a hand written letter today. I haven't wrote her in a long time so I know she will enjoy it! :)
