Give Back: A Thankful Heart

"Gratitude is the sign of noble souls."
Aesop

Happy March everyone! We're so excited to unveil March's Give Back theme: A Thankful Heart.

What exactly are we looking for here? Well, I personally find myself lacking in this department. Sure, I am thankful for my blessings, but I have a hard time transferring that to concrete ways to show my thankfulness. Anyone else?

This month, we're excited to feature tons of great giveaways, many themed around "A Thankful Heart" and handfuls of advice and resources to reach out and spread that gratitude around. Changing the world starts right within our very own hearts.

Each week, we'll be challenging you with a specific way to show that you're thankful. Now you don't have to follow our challenges to participate, they are only suggestions.

A Thankful Heart's Weekly Challenges:

WEEK ONE CHALLENGE: Send a written thank you to anyone in your life. Snail mail is so underrated. Get writing!

WEEK TWO CHALLENGE: Say thank you. Simple right? Say it to your kids for picking up toys, the worker at McDonalds, your mail person. Make a concious effort to spread your thanks.

WEEK THREE CHALLENGE:
Start a gratitude journal. The length you write isn't important, it's simply thinking about and reflecting on your blessings, and writing them down!

WEEK FOUR CHALLENGE: It's your turn!
Share with us one way you incorporate gratitude and thanks in your everyday lives! Let's get insipired!

We've got lots of goodies planned for you wonderful readers! Looking forward to a very blessed and thank-filled March!
Feel free to blog about it, and grab the Give Back button too! Let's spread the love around :)

  1. Love this! I make a point to send (at least) one hand-written note each week. I flip through my address book and mix it up... it always makes me feel good to provide a loved one with a personal touch! :)

  2. Thanks for the encouragement to do this. So often, I just find myself sending an email instead! I wrote up a letter to thank some friends for letting us stay with them when we visited from out of town!

  3. What a great idea! I don't know if you guys know how much I enjoy your blog and reviews! I am now addicted to Etsy :) Along with writing a birthday card to my sister tonight which includes a colored picture from Delia, I am also going to write a thank-you card to my best friend for just being a friend and also include a picture from D in their too! (She colored a bunch tonight to send to daycare tomorrow.)

  4. I had commented the other day on this, not sure where it went. But I think it's a wonderful idea and said "count me in"! I wrote a nice note to my Gma. I don't talk to her often enough and it's been a really long time since I've written her a note.

For the past two days I have made an extra efforts to say thank you to everyone and I do notice because of that I find my kids saying thank you to each other. It really does work. My kids seem to mirror what they see me doing.

  6. I like week two's challenge cuz that's easy for me! I say it all the time w/o even thinking about it. It's engrained in me! So easy peasy for week 2! :)

  9. I've noticed a lot that when I'm holding my daughter going into a store and someone is by the door, they usually open the door for me. Of course I say, 'thank you!' This happened this week at FedEx Office and Hobby Lobby.

  11. ooh week 3's a bit tougher. I think it's a great idea. I am going try it out as it should help me be more positive. :) I think the easiest way for me to tackle this challenge is to create a journal on the computer, seeing has I'm always on here. :)

  12. I think week 3 is my favorite. YOu know I named my blog Little Yayas and Blessed. Because not a day goes by that I don't feel truly blessed. Thank you for this one. I think that is feels so good to not only think about our blessing but to write them down.

  13. I have been trying really hard to teach Raileigh to say thank you to strangers in public. We tried a lot at the doctor yesterday, but it was mostly me saying it :) That's okay because she is listening and I know she will pick up on it sooner or later :)

  15. A way that I try to incorporate gratitude and thanks into my everyday life is trying to say thanks to the little people at my work. For example in the cafeteria, the super nice grill gal who makes my favorite curly fries on Mondays - saying thanks when they are done. And the cashiers when I pay, even though I just place my order and pay for my salad through them, it is nice to always have a cheery voice that tells me my total!

  16. Saying thank you is just a continuous thing for me. It's saying thank you while out in public like receiving my Iced Mocha at McDonald's, having someone open the door for me, someone saying that my daughter's cute, and after receiving my meal at a restaurant. It's saying thank you to my husband for the nice things he does for me like making breakfast/dinner. It's saying thank you to my daughter when she gives me kisses and when she shares her toys by handing them to me. The list can go on! ;-)

  23. One way I do is I feel like the one word you hear out of my mouth the most besides "I love you" is thank you. I feel I am a very appreciative person and I try to take every opportunity to express that to others everyday.

  24. Saying 'thank you' is important. When I say 'thank you', I make sure to make eye contact. It definitely furthers the good feeling and positive intent.

  25. Week one for me I actually sent out 4 note cards to friends and family. They will be surprised and it did feel good to do this!

  27. Of course, I would find this on the very last day of march--but I am going to do it anyway--and I am going to come back to see what April's challenge is. Expressing gratitude is something very near and dear to my heart...thank you for having this challenge...and fr giving me a reason to be more vocal in my gratitude, every day...

  28. It may seem simple and a small gesture, but I am so grateful for my husband. We found after we had two kids that we weren't showing how grateful we are of each other enough. Now, I will get little cards of thanks and love, an the occassional spray of flowers. I make him lunch everyday and include a sweet little note tucked between his sandwiches. And I always greet him at the door when he gets home from work.

  29. I pay tolls for the people behind me! Or pay for parking meters that are about to expire.
Thank you for the giveaway :)

  30. I have been "meaning" to join in on this since the first week - letter writing - which I have yet to do (but I'm doing it TODAY and I'll post when I do!!)

For Week 4: (and a bit of Week 2) I always say "thank you and have a great day" when checking out at a store.
-I check when I go through a door and hold it for whoever is coming in or going out. (Once, a sweet eldery gentleman commented on my doing so and it just made my day!)
-My husband is the chief cook at our house and I always make sure that I thank him and tell him that the meal was yummy!
-I am sure to say please and thank you to my granddaughter to help her learn to do so and because it's polite!
-My husband makes a point of chatting with, and thanking, the garbage pickup guys when he's outside or running to take out the garbage! They seem to really appreciate it!
I'm looking forward to April's challenges!

  31. Without knowledge I thank people. It's habit, but a good one! I am always saying pls and thank you like my parents taught me and I instill that in my son. He's not quite 2, but he will soon get the hang of it and pass on the good values. :)
